Dental implants: everything you need to know before the procedure

What is a dental implant and how does it replace the natural root?
A dental implant is a small biocompatible titanium screw surgically inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone. Its function is to replace the root of a missing tooth, providing an ultra-strong foundation for a subsequent ceramic or zirconia crown. Unlike removable dentures, the implant integrates seamlessly with the bone through a process called osseointegration. This not only ensures stability identical to that of natural teeth, but also prevents bone resorption, maintaining the facial structure intact over time.

The diagnostic phase: the importance of 3D CT
Before proceeding with the implant placement, a thorough radiographic evaluation is essential. At Dental Vita, we use Cone Beam CT technology to obtain a millimetric, three-dimensional image of the mouth. This preliminary analysis allows the surgeon to assess the density and volume of the available bone, identifying the ideal placement for the implant and avoiding sensitive structures such as nerves or maxillary sinuses. If the bone is insufficient, safe bone regeneration techniques now exist that allow implant placement even in complex cases.

The surgery: time, pain, and anesthesia
One of the main concerns of patients is pain. In reality, implant placement is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia, making the procedure completely painless. In many cases, thanks to computer-guided surgery techniques, the procedure is quick and minimally invasive. For more anxious patients, conscious sedation is possible, a state of deep relaxation that allows the patient to face the procedure without stress, while remaining awake and able to cooperate with the doctor.

The healing period and immediate loading
After the screw is inserted, the healing phase begins. It usually takes 3 to 6 months for the implant to fully fuse with the bone. However, thanks to modern "immediate loading" techniques, in certain clinical conditions, it is possible to place a fixed temporary crown within 24-48 hours of surgery. This means that the patient will never be without teeth during the waiting period, being able to smile and speak naturally from the first day after the procedure in the clinic.

Certified materials and guaranteed results
Choosing an implant in Albania with Dental Vita means being assured of top-quality materials. We use only implants manufactured by world leaders in the sector, accompanied by an "implant passport" certifying the batch number, origin, and international guarantee. The quality of the titanium and the precision of the components are essential to prevent complications such as peri-implantitis. With proper oral hygiene and regular checkups, a well-placed dental implant can represent a permanent solution for the rest of your life.
